Surfing at Smiths Beach – Phillip Island

On the 9th of December the Go For Your Life Leadership Team went to Phillip Island to have surfing lessons. We travelled there by bus and it took about 50 minutes to arrive at Smiths Beach on Phillip Island .There we lined up in hight order and was given a wetsuit that fit us, they then chose surf boards that were right for us and we headed to the beach. When we got to the beach we were split up randomly into groups of about 5 or 6, they then showed the basics of surfing and we went out and tried it ourselves. After a while they called us back to the shore and on the sand they showed us how to properly stand up on the board, and once we had the hang of it we tried it in the water.

I think surfing was really fun and even though I face planted a few times I would like to do it again one day!!!

Yum Cha & Museum Excursion

On Friday 7D, 7E, 7F, and some of 7C went on the yum cha excursion in the city. We all took a train from Narre Warren to the city, stopping at every station on the way. In the museum it was really cool because they had a chinese dragon that was 60 meters long and its head weighed 210kg. In the basement of the museum it had an olden day scene of a ancient chinese store, temple and a small theatre.

When we had yum cha I tried every dish they gave us and I liked every one exept for 2.

I really liked this excursion and I’d like to do it again one day!!!

Poverty

I chose to do poverty as my global issue and here are some poverty facts-

Almost half the world – over 3 billion people, live on less than $2.50 a day

Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names

About 1 billion children live in poverty thats 1 in 2 children in the world. 640 million people live without shelter, 400 million have no access to safe clean water, and 270 million have no access to proper health services. 10.6 million people died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5, or about 29,000 children per day

It’s pretty sad

I have read this book and I have really enjoyed it, it’s about a camera that Greg and his friends find that looks normal but it’s not!!!

Every picture that he takes turns out different in a scary way, like when he took a picture of his dads new car the picture came out with a wrecked car. And that night they had a car crash.

And when he took a picture of his sister and her friends at her birthday party the picture came out, with out his sister in the photo. And then his sister disappeared.

It’s a really good book and I recommend that you read it too.

This book is really cool, it has real facts that you wouldn’t believe.
